چکیده
We give the relationship between instantaneous frequency estimation via the derivative of the phase of the analytic signal and the first moment of general time-frequency representations from Cohen’s Manuscript received March, 2, 1990; revised January 25, 1992. Many researchers have applied the standard linear definition of first moment to discrete-time time-frequency representations although this leads to biased instantaneous frequency estimators with high variance; we show that periodic (circular) definitions of moments must be used to account for the periodization of the frequency variable due to sampling.

Newborn EEG Seizure Detection Based on Interspike Space Distribution in the Time-Frequency Domain
This paper presents a new time-frequency based EEG seizure detection method. This method uses the distribution of interspike intervals as a criterion for discriminating between seizure and nonseizure activities. To detect spikes in the EEG, the signal is mapped into the time-frequency domain. The high instantaneous energy of spikes is reflected as a localized energy in time-frequency domain. Hi...
متن کاملNew instantaneous frequency estimation method based on the use of image processing techniques
The aim of this paper is to present a new method for the estimation of the instantaneous frequency of a frequency modulated signal, corrupted by additive noise. This method represents an example of fusion of two theories: the timefrequency representations and the mathematical morphology. Any time-frequency representation of a useful signal is concentrated around its instantaneous frequency law ...
متن کاملTime - Frequency and Time - Scale Vector
We study local deformations of time-frequency and timescale representations, in the framework of the so-called reassignment methods, which aim at deblurringg time-frequency representations. We focus on deformations generated by appropriate vector elds deened on time-frequency or time scale plane, and constructed on the basis of geometric and group-theoretical arguments. Such vector elds may be ...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis Of Mono-bit Digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (Difm) Device
Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) devices are the essential parts of anyESM, ELINT, and RWR receiver. Analog IFMs have been used for several decades. However, thesedevices are bulky, complex and expensive. Nowadays, there is a great interest in developing a wideband, high dynamic range, and accurate Digital IFMs. One Digital IFM that has suitably reached allthese requirements is mono-bi...
متن کاملSeismic Sequence Analysis and Attribute Extraction
The variation of frequency content with time is an important seismo-stratigraphic indicator. This paper discusses the analysis of local frequency content of seismic reeection data with quadratic joint time-frequency representations. Signal adaptive quadratic time-frequency representations have considerably better time-frequency localization properties (resolution) than more standard approaches ...
